Richard Mixin’ delivers DJ, audio and dance party lighting setups. He is not a lighting company in that he could light an entire establishment.
-
Pricing is based on fair market rates for luxury weddings. Richard Mixin’ does not live on Nantucket and travels from Boston. This requires lodging at summer rates, ferry, vehicle rental and an assistant. Logistics consumes approximately 35% of my fee.
-
Pretty much anything you can dream of that requires a DJ. Weddings, afterparties, fundraisers, annual events, corporate events, birthdays, surprise parties, surprise weddings even!
-
Yes, in fact it is preferred. It is surprisingly easy to DJ with a live musician. I highly recommend going with saxophonist Tommy Weeks but we can do piano, violin, fiddle, drums etc.
-
Nope! I am available anywhere worldwide with enough notice and logistical arrangement. I just prefer the island due to my overwhelming love of the place and the people who reside within it.
-
Richard Mixin’ travels to and from Nantucket via Hyannis ferries exclusively. This is absolutely non-negotiable unless a private plane is chartered that can safely bring 150lbs of equipment to and from the island. Thus, I am at the mercy of the Hyannis ferry system.
-
Yes, if the event goes past 8pm and we are on Nantucket Richard Mixin’ will require lodging unless we are at Cru. However you will not have to book that. It is baked into the price. If you have a room in town, or a guest house, that is totally acceptable and we can come down on the pricing.

As anyone familiar with Nantucket knows, getting to and from the island can sometimes be unpredictable, especially during the North Atlantic’s stormier months. I’ve personally experienced ferry cancellations and been unexpectedly stuck on the island on multiple occasions, so I always like to be upfront about these possibilities when planning an event.
Nantucket’s beautiful island setting also comes with the occasional weather challenge, including Nor’easters, high winds, tropical storms, and hurricanes. With hurricane season officially beginning June 1, it’s simply one of the logistical considerations that comes with hosting an event on the island.
If severe weather, mechanical issues, operational disruptions, or other unforeseen circumstances result in the cancellation or suspension of Hy-Line Cruises or Steamship Authority ferry service, making it impossible for me to reasonably travel to or from Nantucket, I may unfortunately be unable to perform the engagement. In that situation, I would communicate with you as soon as possible and do everything reasonably within my control to help navigate the circumstances.
I always want your event to be a wonderful experience, and my goal is to plan ahead, communicate openly, and make sure we’re on the same page should the unexpected happen.

Richard Mixin’ brings 2 decades of experience and has a vast musical knowledge that spans from the 1960’s on. He is a a Grammy’s voter and has summered on the Cape and the Islands since the 1990’s and is exceedingly familiar with every venue and establishment. He has a large connection and understanding of what is required to travel there and make a successful event. He also only takes on a handful of events.
-
Any and all of it. Richard Mixin’ can mix multiple genres in a given set.
-

Richard Mixin’ loves to have fun! This is the “having fun” business. The approach is to keep this as friendly and personable as possible. It is not unheard of become good friends with former clients and it is a wonderful thing when that occurs. One love!
-
Yes Richard Mixin’ makes basic ceremonial announcements. This is part of the process. The general approach is less time on the microphone however.
-
YES! As long as it is reasonable and suits the current sound and does not diminish the flow of the dancefloor in the moment. You would not want tor request a slow song in the middle of a disco remix set.
-
Yes, this is negotiable based on the event itself and duration.
-
Sure do. But it’s not always required. He is a family friend and a tax attorney who does little in the summer (what a goof).
-
Basically, yes. If you have questions as your date nears, let’s talk as many times as you need. This is common and benefits both of us.
